A little update

I've been working on a restock of my current charms. After that I"ll work on the new styles I want to do. For now this is where I am at. I have a long way to go.

Way too long...

I wasn't intending to be gone so long. Honest.

Life too a turn for the crazy.

I'm back now though as the dust settles.

And I didn't come empty handed. Unfortunately there isn't a construction aid this time, but I'll get around to one soon,

For now it's just updated images.

These charms will be sold at Emerald Valley Comic fest in eugene in two weeks.

They all still need detail work, but so far I like them.

SIlence and Current events

As many of you noticed, I've been silent for a while. I'm sorry. Life took a downward turn. It's not too bad, but it is taking time for us to fix things. This also leaves me withint internet a good portion of the time or too busy to sit down and do a post.

We're trying to move, but we're in transition and staying in a tiny trailer on the family farm. It's chaotic.

That being said, I have an event to distract me this weekend.

There will also be many dragons. I wish I could have made more ,but this is it for now.

Another Dragon

Just a quickie post.

This guy just poped out of nowhere. I was mostly just playing with clay, trying to get rid of that brawn. No matter how much of it I use it just doesn't depreciate lol.

Overall he's cute, but I might do more painted detailing on him.

Current events

Things are quite hectic here as usual. We've been hunting for a home quite hevily and finally, hopefully found one.

*crosses fingers*

In the mean time. I've been trying to get refocused for Seadogs in July. To do that I've been making another series of dragons. Little pirate dragons.

Moogles Complete

Today is adding the face to the moggles. There are a variety of ways to add their faces. Acrylic pain is one way. Sewing is another. Really its up to you.

Each way has diffeents ups and downs.

Acrylic:
more details, different faces available. quick
down side is that acrylis won't hold or look too good on fur cuz the fur causes it to pop up a bit.

Sewing:
Lasts longer, tigher seal agains the fabric
time consumig and less choice for details.

Again it's all up to you.  I did one of each here for show.

AS for faces, you can really do anything. Know that if you sew you'll need a thick thread. The little mebroidery thread I sued wasn't quite enough. it keep sinking into the fabric and disappearing. I ended up choosing to paint all of them.

Lastly I added the wings. I had to first sketch out a wing pattern I liked.

Once i had a pattern I needed to trace, cut and sew the pieces. When cutting these remember to leave a gap between the line and where you cut. otherwise these might not be sewable in the end.

As I guessed they were not sewable. So I ended up just glueing them on. They still look rather cute. 

All that is left is the little dongle above their heads. I"m going to take some thin wire and see if  I can wrap some of the red dots I have and then stick the wire into their heads. I hope it works.

Moogles part 2

So in this post I'll show how I put the moogle together after all parts are sewn. it's rather simple, but does depend on how you want your little stuffie to be. Do you want movable parts, or stationary. I chose movable.

This is the moogle before sewing. it helps to line everything up so you can see where all the pieces go.

After I've decided on the pieces I then string a curved needle with a folded piece of thread. By folding the tread and then stringing the needle the thread that holds on the body parts will be a bit stronger. This can be bypassed by using kevlar thread or fishing line, but tying knots in those take a little work and aren't as true. 

Once I'm sure my threads good I begin attaching pieces.

I go through the outside of either the left or the right paw then through the inner part and all the way trough the body, then through the inner side of the other arm and out the outside. I then go all the way back through leaving little gaps on the outside of the arms, but trying to go through the same holes on the insides or the arms and the bodies. this makes it so the arms can be moved up and down. 

Then I do the same thing for the legs. 

At some point I added the noses. They're just glued on with hot glue.

Moogles

I started making moogles again. Mostly because the pony's are a pain to make and i haven't perfected the pattern.

This is the pattern I use, with modifications. Basically I don't have the split in the body piece and you need two pieces of the body piece. I also vary on if I want to use the thumb piece (Arm3 piece). I find I like the arms without that thumb like piece better. This pattern is originally from babylondonstar. Seriously go check her out if she's still active. I've only modded it for my own purposes.

Once I have all my pieces cut out (something I forgot to get pics off, but tracing and cutting is simple) I need to pin certain parts and get them sewn first. IN one case the little triangles on the head so it gets it's shape. And pinning the head2 pieces together along the straighter line.

This is a picture of all the moogles sewn, flipped right side out, and stuffed with cotton. I am now sewing them shut. I'll have one more post with a picture of a completed moogle and how to do the little cosmetic designs on them.

Wire Ears

I'm working on my stock of wire ears for Tortuga here is Lebanon Or. I ran out last time so I want to make sure I make enough this time. I'm also working on a variety of designs.

These are just the base designs. I mold the wire to my own ear then give it a bit of leeway for others ears. the circular part can be stretched to fit other ears. The little rolled part fits under the lobe of the ear where you'd get a piercing, but I try to make ones that don't interfere with earrings.

For the record these are just bases right now. I'll be adding more too them as soon as I meet my quota.

My Little Plushie

Today I'm working on plushies to see how they sell at a few events. These will be hard to sell because I can't sell them when I'm with my partner because she makes crochet plushies.

Either way it gives me something new to try.

It's an ok pattern, but there are some issues I've found. It's a personal thing possibly. Either way it's been a fun process.

This is what it looks like once it's all sewn together.

Here is what it looks like flipped right side out.

And here is one after some stuffing.

As you can see above I need to finish stuffing that one and then sew up the neck. This is what the neck looks like right now.

Once this is suitably stuffed and sewn up I can then decorate the outside with hair and tail and whatever other extras I want to add. 

This is a fully stuffed one. Ignore the blue. Her names Inkwell for a reason. :P (That and i was dumb and used a pen to trace out the pattern. Don't use pen on felt. )

Here's one with detail work. I glued on the hair, printed out eyes and sealed them with modge podge then glued them on. 

Here she is all done. The cutie mark is painted on and her face details are simple stitches.

One last touch was some small glasses I made out of wire and glued to her face.

Like I siad the pattern has weird bits, so she sits funny. I could be sewing it wrong too, but all of them so far have sitting issues. ??

More Dragons

I have to restock on my dragons. They were a bigger hit at the fair this year than I expected. I've been playing around with poses too. I've already done a blog before on these little guys and the tutorial I find best for these. It really does get easier as you go. You learn new tricks and figure out different ways to do details.

And this is really all I have for now. I wish I had more but I've been really busy with fairs and such.
